We're seeking a HR Generalist, who will play a pivotal role in shaping employee experience in our Winona office and supporting the wider HR team on initiatives from recruitment to employee engagement. You will be a strategic advisor to our management team on areas such as employee relations, compliance and training to ensure a best practice and consistent approach is maintained. Successful candidates will bring strong experiences of leading benefits administration processes, updating policies and procedures in line with current government regulations and experience coaching managers to achieve their best work.
We’re looking for a proactive, self-starter to bring their innovative ideas and best practice mindset to our team to further build strong management capability and achieve a smooth employee experience at all levels.
Key responsibilities:
- Legal Compliance and Reporting: Ensure Company policies align with legal requirements across 15 states, maintaining proactive knowledge and continual learning on government reporting regulations.
- Policy Guidance: Advise management on the effective administration of employee-facing policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and bringing a best practice approach.
- Employee Relations: Advise and coach managers and employees through employee relations issues, acting with professionalism and credibility at each step of the process.
- Manager Capability: Coaching and partnering with managers to develop their capability in different areas from having difficult conversations to managing absence.
- Benefits Administration: Administer comprehensive benefit programs, including health, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and 401k plans. Oversee leave administration, including STD, LTD, and FMLA.
- Unemployment Claims Management: Skillfully handle unemployment claims, providing necessary information, disputing claims, and representing the company at hearings when required.
- Talent Acquisition: Support the wider HR team on the recruitment, screening, and selection of qualified candidates for open positions, leveraging innovative hiring practices.
- Onboarding: Conduct impactful new employee orientations, creating a positive Day 1 impression of the Company and the foundation for a smooth employee experience.
- Employee Engagement Initiatives: Support and drive employee engagement activities, ranging from social events to communicating new updates with employees.
- Special Project Support: Contribute to and support various project initiatives, including diversity and inclusion, change management, succession planning, and wellness initiatives.
- Continuous Legal Awareness: Maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of evolving employment laws and regulations.
Required experience and skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or related field, coupled with over 5 years of progressive HR experience.
- SHRM certification is preferable but not essential.
- Comprehensive knowledge of multi-state employment laws and regulations.
- Preferred experience in administering cutting-edge benefits, including self-insured health plans.
- Working with vendors and external stakeholders for consistent compliance and employee experience.
- Implementing a new HRIS or having expert knowledge of HRIS systems, Dayforce or other, is beneficial.
- Experience working in an administrative environment is essential. Advantageous candidates will be able to develop these experiences into a continuous improvement mindset to use technology andHRIS systems to their potential through automation and digitisation.

- Takes a detail-oriented approach to data and communications.
- Uses excellent organizational skills to take ownership on different projects and also work as part of the wider HR team.
- Brings a self-starter mentality and gets stuck into projects and problem solving tasks.
- Acts as a partner to management through a professional and credible approach, using coaching and strong relationship building. Applies confidentiality to strategic projects and employee data, in accordance with data privacy laws.
- Uses Microsoft Office/Google suite confidently, including Excel/Sheets to analyse and report data through different HR metrics and reporting methods.
